He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
Judas cared for the money Jesus had, and he helped himself to whatever he wanted. Judas was upset when expensive oil was used to anoint Jesus’ feet and questioned why it wasn’t sold and the money given to the poor. The truth was that he would likely have taken the money himself. Not all who say they are followers of Jesus are truly trustworthy.
- Lord, open our spiritual eyes to see what You want to show us.
- Jesus, show us how to give gifts to You.
